Alpro Soya is a leading producer and distributor of soya products on the European market. The company is located in Belgium and employs over 2,000 people around Europe. The fundamental philosophy of the company and its products is the respect for natural environment and the sense of responsibility for natural resources.
Alpro's history
Back in 1934, the founder of the Vandemoortele group was already aware of the nutritional properties of soya. Also his grandson convinced of the valuable health benefits of soya perfected a unique and natural process of making soya milk in his pioneer, Madagascar based factory in 1980. Philippe Vandemoortele had a vision: with his technologically advanced soya production method he aimed to solve the nutrition problems of the Third World. However, for logistical reasons, the project had to be suspended.
At the same time, increased awareness of healthy eating in Europe created an opportunity to develop a soya-based production. As a result, the Vandemoortele Group set up a separate division specialising in natural soya-based food. And ... Alpro was born. 9 years later Alpro built Europe's largest and most modern production unit for soya food based on the UHT process. The plant was built in Wevelgem (Belgium).
In 1996, Alpro took over Sojinal (Issenheim in France) and thereby acquired another soya milk production unit. In 2000 in Kettering (Great Britain) Alpro built a brand new factory to produce fresh soya milk. Since that time Alpro has become a world leader on soy products market.
Since June 2009, Alpro is a part of the American company Dean Foods, a major dairy company and absolute market leader in soya products in the USA.
